Hyundai has gained a reputation for building high-value vehicles. Hyundai's string of solid new products includes an all-new minivan, the seven-passenger Veracruz crossover, and one of the best mid-sized crossovers, the Santa Fe.

In an attempt to move upmarket, Hyundai is marketing the new Genesis RWD luxury sedan as an alternative to more expensive models from BMW, Lexus and Mercedes. The Genesis offers two engines: a 290-hp V-6 and a 375-hp V-8, both equipped with a standard six-speed automatic. What really differentiates the Genesis from more established competitors is its high level of content, combined with superb build quality. With prices starting in the low thirties, the Genesis makes a strong case to be cross-shopped with more expensive sedans.

Hyundai adds a new five-door hatchback Elantra Touring model. Although the Elantra name is used, it the model is actually based on a European product. The Elantra Touring is equipped with the 141-bhp 2.0L I-4, coupled to a choice of a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic. Like other Hyundai models, the Elantra Touring is comprehensively equipped.

The mid-sized Sonata benefits from a number of changes this year. A new 2.4L four-cylinder produces more horsepower and better fuel economy. A reworked center stack on the interior features improved styling and usability.

Next up for Hyundai is the launch of a new RWD Genesis coupe.
